Asalam Sejahtera and Good Day!
The year 2020 and 2021 has been a great challenge to all maritime pilots in the country where you are required to comply the strict SOPs meted out by your respective employers to combat the Covid-19 infection while you are discharging your duties on ships. At MPM, we certainly hope the SOPs and Guidelines prepared and disseminated to you, including all ports and terminal in Malaysia has been helpful and be construed in the best means.
Myself with Master Capt. Avijit Kundur with Bridge Team onboard a VLCC.
The port and shipping industry shall be aware that the donning of facemask and FULL PPE could restrict the pilot’s mobility and hampers breathing especially climbing up the stairways up to the navigation bridge from the deck level. This can be highly detrimental to health safety. Thus, it is highly advisable for you to be sensitive to your physical strength and limitation. Do refrain from putting excessive stress to yourself at all times. Please ensure you have ample rest before accepting the next pilotage assignment as fatique contributes to potential near miss and accident that eventually affect the general operation in the port or terminal.
Although the vaccination drives by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOH) has been successful in reducing the number of infection and death significantly, I would like to urge all members to continue to observe all the health safety precaution possible to avoid being infected and infecting others especially our family members and colleagues. The wearing of mask while onboard ship is still considered essential while the donning of FULL PPE for ships that arrive from critical ports remains.
The year 2022 is expected to be a recovering years for all of us in anticipating our daily life to resume normal gradually.
We at MPM, are dully excited to execute the important agendas that includes the Maritime Pilots Stalwart Award, issuance of physical membership identification card, the assessment of unified syllabus for training pilots, IMPA membership and more; that were rendered impossible during the pandemic.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you A SAFE AND PRODUCTIVE YEAR IN 2022!
THANK YOU!
Capt. Martin Lim CM URm M.MPM.
